Latest News France: Rail Travel
The relocation of the Rail Europe Travel Centre from Piccadilly to the Visit Britain Centre in Regent Street is the latest in a string of developments for European rail travel. The offices in the heart of London are open to the public for French rail travel advice and tickets including rail passes, the Snow Train, French Motorail and Eurostar.
The move follows the opening of the new Eurostar terminal at St Pancras International in November last year. Services switched overnight from Waterloo International and the new location combined with the High Speed 1 line allow for a faster travelling time to the heart of Paris and a record year for Eurostar.
The other major development has been the opening of the new international terminal at Ebbsfleet in January this year. The station in north Kent offers a convenient alternative to the London airports for those living in the south east – and a green one too. A Eurostar journey to the centre of Paris generates one tenth of the amount of carbon dioxide produced by an equivalent flight.
‘The impact [of High Speed 1 services] has been immediate,’ explains Richard Brown of Eurostar. ‘Eurostar’s faster services, shorter travel times and carbon neutral journeys are winning over more travellers from the short-haul airlines.’
