'Unquestionably the leading specialist in cultural tours' (Daily Telegraph), Martin Randall Travel organises around two hundred small- group tours every year in Europe and the Middle East, as well as high- brow cruises in the Mediterranean and a unique series of own-brand, all-inclusive music festivals.

Focusing on art, music, archaeology, architecture, gastronomy and history, the tours are meticulously planned and led by expert lecturers – art historians, musicologists, archaeologists, historians – selected for their companionability as well as their scholarship.

Renowned for our first-rate client care and unobtrusive efficiency, our clients come back again and again. For the second time in three years, we are Travel Company of the Year, ranking highest in customer satisfaction surveys among members of the Association of Independent Tour Operators in 2007.

Small-group tours to France include:

Art on the Côte d'Azur

Explores Europe's greatest concentration of classic modern art, in idyllic scenery. An art historian leads the tour through old and new galleries in Nice, St-Tropez, Vence, and Menton, enjoying works of art by Renoir, Bonnard, Braque, Léger, Miró, Giacometti, Cocteau, Chagall, Matisse and Picasso, amongst others.

Mediaeval Normandy

Based in Rouen and Bayeux, this is very much an architectural history tour, visiting superb examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture.

Châteaux of the Loire

The tour includes only the best of the houses and gardens in the region and is planned to avoid the crowds. Participants stay throughout in a 13th-century castle on the River Loire, traditionally furnished with an excellent restaurant.

Poets and the Somme

First World War poetry in the context of military history and the the lives (and deaths) of the poets. The tour aims for an understanding of the poems through a study of events, landscapes and the wartime lives of individual poets.

Festival de Valloires

The tour attends concerts of this new music festival set in the superb, atmospheric location of the grand eighteenth century L'Abbaye de Valloires, tucked into the pretty valley of the little River Authie in Picardy.

Gardens of the Riviera

Inspiring historic gardens in spectacular settings, includes visits to some gardens not normally open to the public. Participants stay in one hotel in Nice throughout.

New for 2009:

Modern Art on the Mediterranean (15–24 April 2009) A cruise of extraordinary riches: from Málaga to Nice, around twenty- five collections of classic modern art, sites and scenes which inspired some of the greatest art of the twentieth century. A superb team of art historians and biographers give lectures on the art and its context.

The capacity on board the MS Diamant is limited to 180 to foster a greater intimacy and ensure that regimentation is kept to a minimum.

As with all our Mediterranean cruises, there will be no casino, no cabaret, no disco and no dumbing down.
