The Luciole
A cruise on the Luciole gives our guests the opportunity to explore in comfort the intimate up-country waterways of central France. From the air-conditioned saloon big picture windows allow uninterrupted views of the exceptional passing scene. For the Nivernais Canal, on which we cruise, is beautiful and dramatic and is rated by experienced barge travellers amongst the finest routes in Europe. Embracing both river and man-made canal, the Nivernais preserves the character of 150 years ago and has been described as 'the most beautiful and varied water route of them all'.

The Cruise
Our All-Inclusive Luciole cruise rate includes: six nights accommodation, all meals and drinks served on board, and use of the barge’s bus for local excursions. Prices also include the cost of transfers between Paris and the barge at the beginning and end of each cruise. With our warm-spirited and expert crew of six, all of whom are British or English-speaking, we combine gastronomy and comfort with thoughtful personal service throughout each cruise.

Accommodation
The accommodation on board the Luciole comprises: three double-bedded cabins, each of which can be converted into twins, together with three further twin-bedded and two single cabins. Each cabin has its own private shower and toilet facilities. Individually controlled air-conditioning is installed throughout.

The Cuisine
It is our great delight that meals on board the Luciole are treasured times: opportunities to sit and relax and share with friends, old or new, a summer luncheon or dinner by candlelight. The warm ambiance, for which the Luciole is renowned, is no better experienced than when gathered round a table with the anticipation of unfolding culinary magic. Wines from far and near are chosen to complement the menu. With Chablis and Saint Bris on our doorstep, local vineyards are well represented; but wines from the Côte d'Or are also on our list, together with selections from regions further afield in France. With our ‘All-Inclusive cruise rate - refreshments are freely available at all times from our open bar.

Itinerary
We cruise though lands where Charolais cows graze by the water's edge. Stone-built villages stand invitingly, with their painted shutters and doorways framed in roses. Centuries-old locks mark the way, a contact with a life-style where hustle knows no place. Each day in the accompanying bus, the guide leads excursions into this historic and culturally rich region - to the Chateau of Bazoches, home to the Marquis of Vauban, the market towns of Auxerre and Avallon and the vineyards of Chablis. The splendid Basilica of Vezelay, which we also visit, is a World Heritage site. Our experienced on-board guide knows this region well and we aim always to give our passengers the perfect balance of culture and relaxation in the holiday of a lifetime.
