FAQs

What is the France Forum?

The France forum has been running for 8 years and is one of, if not THE original forums about France on the web for English speakers.

It was created back in 2000 as a meeting place for online discussions of France and French Living, creating a community where users can discuss various aspects of France, ask questions and give answers.

Our main objective is to continue to provide an area where our readers can interact with questions, answers and discussions on moving to France, living in France and regions of France.

Do I need to join the France Forum?

The France forum is free to use. "Guest" access is allowed so you can view most sections within the forum before joining, but in order to post a message or reply, you will need to join.

If you decide to join us, all that is required is for you to enter your email address, username and password. You will then be able to log in to the forum, start your own discussion threads or reply to any otf the discussions already started.

Are there Rules for Using the France Forum?

Like all forums we have rules and regulations in the form of a code of conduct. You will need to read and agree to these before participating. Remember never to give out personal information in a public area as anyone, anywhere will be reading what you have posted.

Once joined, how do I post a topic or message in the forum?

Within each of the sections is a list of the forums, click on one of the forum sections. You should now see a screen with a list of "Topics" (with the most recent topics at the top). Who started the topic, the number of replies, number of views and who posted the last reply.

If you would like to add a NEW topic, click on the "post" button at the top left and you can then compile a message.

There are two ways to reply to an existing message. If you would like to add a reply to a current topic go into the topic that you would like to reply to and click on the "Reply" button and you can then compile a message.  Your reply will appear at the end of the other replies.

If you would like to ‘quote’ a previous reply click the blue "Quote" button next to their reply and this will quote their message and it will take you through to compile a message.
If you have posted a topic or reply you can edit it AFTER you have posted by clicking the Edit button next to your post/reply. With replies you will also have the option of deleting it.

Compiling a message:

You will see a compilation screen, and depending on your browser a WYSYWYG editor, at the bottom a choice between design or HTML, most users will use 'design' and this is the default setting.

Subject: Enter the subject of your post here (this line will already be filled if you are replying to a post)

Message: Enter your message here. If you are quoting within a reply the quote will show up within 'Quote' tags and can be edited if you want to only quote part of their message.

Click "Post" - to put your post live.

Preview – you can check the look of your post before posting it onto the forum.
